Shelby + Kyle! >> Fun + Intimate Fall Wedding (Kimball, MN)

I’d just like to state for the record that before 2020 necessitated the shifting of wedding plans, I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of a backyard wedding. Shelby + Kyle’s wedding on one perrrrfectly glorious October Saturday only furthers that feeling.

From the initial “shoes or no shoes?” at the front door, you’re already in a headspace that this is special. You’re a guest in someone’s home, bringing a new level of reverence in how you navigate space. And to be there at all, included in an intimate guest list of important people, there’s a certain kind of camaraderie as you gather in the backyard as the ceremony begins. Together, you get a glimpse into this beautiful relationship—a guest of a different sort—as its commitment is solidified. There’s a collective understanding that this time and place is one-of-a kind, just as Kyle and Shelby are.

Sure, you can achieve a version of those feelings in different sorts of weddings, but there’s really a certain king of magic that lives in the backyard, crossing that relaxed and meaningful environment by the sincere force of feeling present.

Long live, I say!

And while at-home weddings do foster a greater sense of intimacy, it must also be stated for the record that they also bring a helluva lot of fun. My cheeks hurt from laughing at the end of the night, I can only imagine how much more cow bell made it onto the dance floor following my departure. ;)
