In Home Session Prep!

An in home session: my favorite! To help you prep for our shoot, I’ve put together a lil guide that’ll help ensure we get a big batch of framers.

How to dress

Think an elevated version of your everyday style.
Most people naturally gravitate towards similar vibes in decor and attire, so chances are you already fit in with your environment. (Hooray! You’re already doing great!)

Specifics that tend to work well

  • Bare feet to keep things casual. Cozy socks are great too, especially for cold weather sessions.

  • Clothing you’d actually wear at home. Avoiding hats, jackets, and shoes (unless you really do wear them in your home!) and sticking more with sweaters, a henley, casual button downs, and sundresses.

  • Jeans all around. Ya can’t go wrong.

How to style your home

No need to spend the energy making every room in the house spotless! We’ll likely contain our shooting to just a few rooms, usually those with the biggest windows. Most often that looks like the living room. Sometimes it drifts into nurseries, bedrooms, kitchens, or backyards depending on the style of our shoot and your preference. If you’re unsure, send me casual snapshots of your space and we can decide together what might work best!

A few quick tips

  • Switch off all overhead light. Let’s utilize as much natural window light as possible!

  • Unplug and tidy away any visible cords.

  • Plants go a long way to add life and character. Got one tucked away in the office? Bring it out for our shoot to style into the background.

Consider an activity

In home sessions are special; it’s an opportunity to capture you in a space already so personal. Let’s take it one step further and brainstorm how we can incorporate an activity or two into our shoot.

Maybe your Sunday morning ritual is blueberry pancakes with whipped cream, hot coffee, and spinning your favorite records? Let’s incorporate that! (I also highly encourage having music playing!)

Do you read with each other? Play games? Are living room pillow forts a thing at your house?
Is there one particular couch built for snuggles? Do you spend a lot of time on deck?
Let’s get the wheels turning, figuring out what feels most natural to you!
