Maternity + Newborn Session Options
For new bumps—
My favorite maternity sessions are centered around emotion, and I aim to capture the feeling you have during this time. Maternity sessions can include partners and kids, but I like to keep a portion reserved just for mama. Shooting for the 30-34 week mark is usually the sweet spot, although we can shoot earlier if you’re having multiples, want a certain season, or just like the look and mobility of a smaller bump.
Sessions take place at a location of choice within the Twin Cities metro. If you have a specific site in mind, I’d love to hear it! If you’re not sure where would be best for the vibe you’re after, I’m happy to toss around ideas with you. Want to venture outside the Cities to shoot? For new babes—
I approach newborn sessions with a more photojournalistic, lifestyle perspective. Rather than staging elaborate set-ups, I’m more focused on candid family dynamics: holding, rocking, and little hands curled around your fingers. Given the nature of newborns, shooting times are also more varied + relaxed. I’m patient if your baby needs a snack break.
I prefer to shoot new babes in their home environment, although it’s not required. Within the first 10 days is ideal for tiny, sleepy babies. Also keep in mind that baby acne most often develops at about 2 weeks in case that sways you for timing. If you prefer more alert, eyes-open shots, then 3 weeks-3 months would increase our odds. Most families tend to opt to shoot around the 1 month mark to allow some time to recover and adjust, but there’s no right or wrong time to do newborn photos.

What to expect after our shoot
Within 3 weeks from the date of our session, a link to your gallery will arrive in your inbox. The images you see will be culled, color corrected, cropped, and with minor background retouching tweaks already done.
After you make your 3/6+ selections of the images you’d like additional digital TLC for, I’ll start the final retouching process. Distracting background elements are modified per my discretion—wall outlets be gone!—and facial blemishes are either softened, removed, or celebrated, as is your preference. You’ll also have the opportunity to make specific requests beyond the scope of what’s included; I’m a Photoshop wizard and can accommodate almost any wish! Labor intensive edits are subject to a digital art fee, and will be quoted on an individual basis. You also have the opportunity to purchase retouching on additional images from your gallery at $25 apiece.
And finally: delivery! I aim to have your final edits to you within one month from the date of our shoot. Your digital gallery will have options to download both high and low resolution files, easy sharing capabilities, and options for professional prints fulfilled by my lab in Minneapolis that is always speedy and superb. All images will be open for unlimited downloading.
