The Complete Studio KH Wedding Guide

Section 3:

Planning for Details

Details tend to be focused on two categories: attire and decor. I’ll photograph the latter more organically throughout the day as ceremony and reception set-up is complete, but I like to start with your attire and accessories first thing before you don them. Your detail shots help bring your wedding story all together, and are worth some thought! Whatever you choose, whether it’s from the sample list below or your own unique items, please have them all assembled and set to the side for me.

A sample list of what you might include in your details box:

  • Full wedding invitation suite

  • Program

  • All rings

  • A ring box

  • Dress, out of the bag with tags removed

  • Veil, steamed if necessary

  • Shoes

  • Jewelry

  • Perfume

  • Handbag for the day

  • A special handkerchief or other heirlooms

  • Bridal bouquet

  • Spare blooms or greenery from the florist

  • Vow book

  • Styling accessories like vintage postage stamps, ribbon, and wax seals + stamps

I aim to get a large shot featuring all of your details together like I did for Emily and Grant here, but if time and space are limited, I’ll organize them into small groups and/or separate shots.

Want to leave a ring box up to me? I got you! I come with 3 options packed in my wedding bags—a rose hexagon with a single slot, a teal square with rounded corners, and a white oval—choosing the one that fits your wedding day feel best.

Detail shots tend to largely be focused on bridal details, but if groom’s details are important to capture, a list might include:

  • Cologne

  • Boutonniere

  • Vow book

  • Ring

  • Shoes

  • Watch

  • Cuff links

  • Tie

A few more things to consider when it comes to your attire:

  • If dress + suit shots matter to you: think about investing in a hanger. Plain wooden, velvet covered, a stylized metallic one—there are limitless options.

  • If your wedding attire calls for bare arms and/or shoulders, consider your tan lines. If it’s a concern to you, wear bathing suits that correspond to the same cut as your wedding day finery. If you wear an Apple Watch, consider how much you care whether it might leave a tan line, and if you’ll want to cover it with make-up or accessories.

  • Does your dress need to be bustled after the ceremony? Make sure you have a designated person to do it. If it’s a complicated process, film a professional doing it at your final fitting to help your wedding party out later.
