The Complete Studio KH Wedding Guide
Section 12:
Reception
The one portion of the day where I put my camera down for a spell: dinner. We’ve all gotta eat! (And who wants pictures of them with their mouth open anyway?)
When it comes to where I sit, I prefer to be in your reception space within view of the head table. If it’s a plated meal, it’s helpful if I’m eating at about the same time as you to limit the wait time—typically those tables will be the ones closer to yours. If it’s a buffet, I like to enter the line after your wedding party and parents. Sometimes reception spaces already have vendor tables designated which I’m happy to be seated at. I’d recommend going that route if you have also hired a wedding coordination team plus videographers. If possible, please let me know in advance where I’ll be.
Some cute snaps of Danielle’s Grandpa from where I sat at his table.
Lighting is one of the magic ingredients for any photo, and ensuring we have a lil bit extra goes a long way here. As with your ceremony space, you can never go wrong with an abundance of candles and sets of string lights, especially if we’ll be dining in a darker venue. I’ll still come equipped with lighting options of my own, but the experience for you + your guests will feel more natural in the ambient lighting when I don’t have to shine or constantly flash lights on you, which is my last resort.
