It’s where all my favorite family images live.

Kids are immediately more relaxed when the pressure is off to sit and smile. Expressions are more genuine and personalities start to shine through. Relationships are more on display. And honestly, it’s just more fun for all of us—myself included!

Confetti: The Perfect Ingredient for Joyful Family Photos

Confetti creates movement, laughter, and the kind of natural interaction that makes family photos feel authentic and full of life. It’s simple, colorful, and popular with kids, especially when the realize they’re not responsible for the clean up. ;)

When I was photographing my own daughter amidst a flurry of confetti (or “feta” as she calls it—we are big cheese people) I realized that this is not something that usually flies at home. It’s unique to be encouraged to throw and holler and let loose indoors. Watching her have the time of her life was a treat for me as a parent. One of my confetti families from last year even said that their daughters are still raving about how much fun their session was. It makes me so happy to know that the experience matches the end product in its level of joy.

A Bright Minneapolis Studio: Juniper Loft

This session took place at one of my favorite studios to shoot in Minneapolis: Juniper Loft. I love it for its ample natural light, white walls, historic brick, and warm wood floors.

I brought in a blue paper background to give some variety, and we did the rest in the loft space to allow for more movement. The result is a gallery I want to frame on my own walls for the joy herein contained!

A Returning Family (That Just Keeps Getting Better)

This is the third time in the last year this family has seen me for photos, and I feel like it gets better each time. There’s something so special about photographing families repeatedly—kids grow more comfortable, relationships unfold more naturally, and the images become even more meaningful.
